There are a total of 17 vehicles in the game: 10 are available from the start, 5 are unlockable, and 2 are unplayable. TM:B has a diverse cast made up from both new and returning vehicles, some of which have changed drastically from their previous appearances. Most drivers are also now asylum patients released by Calypso by unknown means. TM:B is set in a universe far from the world in previous installments, being more graphic, violent, and dark. However, the characters will have to win Calypso's Twisted Metal tournament to make their wishes. They then meet a man named Calypso, whom people believe to have ability to grant anyone's wishes. Most of the characters in the games are being held in Blackfield Asylum, a mental institution. All the stories focus on the perspective of each of the characters. There is also a choice of Story Mode, where you have to succeed in the tournament when you finally face the main boss - the legendary ice cream truck Sweet Tooth, and its owner - a crazy clown named Needles Kane.TM:B is set in a fictional town named Midtown. The goal of the game is, of course, to stay last alive, ie "Last man standing". Most arenas represent well-known cities such as New York, Paris or Moscow. There is a wide range of vehicles to choose from with different characteristics, each with one unique weapon at its disposal. The arenas are small enough and the encounter of opponents is aimed at the effective and complete destruction of the enemy. However, the Twisted Metal series differs from Carmageddon in one atmospheric function - it is much closer to Deathmatch than any other similar game. The essence is the same - a large (or not), a tooth-armed car, an arena and a number of contenders for the main prize. While the whole world enthusiastically knocked down pedestrians in Carmageddon, somewhere in the background, the very original and cute Twisted Metal project disappeared, but it absolutely deserved attention.
